Personally.....and it's only my opinion....I think that Paypal fees should be split between buyer and seller 50/50
I know on Ebay their rule is that a seller can't charge for Paypal, but on Delcampe their ruling is nore relaxed....and so it should be !
I believe that if you look at an auction and it state 20% charge for paypal then it should be up to you then if you want to bid
There always is the alternatives of Cheques, Money orders, bank transfers, cash, auctionchex, and of course moneybookers.....Paypal isn't the "be all and end all" of payments
Unfortunatly for small value items paypals charges are really high, for example ...on a £1.45 sale Paypal will take a .25p cut. and on a £7.00 sale paypals cut is around .44p
As I said before....if you are not happy, simply don't bid and move on.....it's the seller who has lost the sale in the end !

and how is my cousin this fine day? i hope he is not leaping from one of those bridges in anger. yes, a 20% PAYPAL fee does seem rather exhorbitant. i charge much less than that, but i do charge a fee. why, because i am a small, petite seller here on delcampe. i cannot afford the business expenses of a large company. and must include these fees to break even on my costs. i have not had many complaints from the hundreds of customers who i have sold to as i think they understand. and vice versa when i pay the fees myself. but karen's advise is also good, if you deem the expenses too much, don't bid. also leave a message to the seller that his fee is too high. perhaps he will adjust it or at least explain why it is so much. by the by, did you see my message about some bridge covers for sale in my auctions? take care mon cousin and have a great weekend.

The problem lies in the fact that the seller has to pay fees not only on the buyer's purchase, but also on the postage costs.
So if someone in America buys a 2,00 euro record from me and the postage will cost me (actually him) an additional 13,00 euro, then I have to pay a fee over 15,00 euro!
So my rule is: I don't charge for using PayPal (or Moneybookers), unless the postage costs are higher than the price of the item.
And uptil now nobody's ever had a problem with that.

I have had a few Paypal Payments for Delcampe items and I never got the usual emails to confirm payments OR the senders address and item details

PAYPAL would be wise not to close our accounts because of our actions. they would soon go bankrupt. you will find many MB sellers do the same. as for costs, i have stated i am but the small seller here, and my gov't. post office is actually not subsidized by our gov't. it has not been so for many years. so our postal rates have soared in the recent years for not just stamps, but for services as well. i should know being retired from the usps. i hope and know my customers understand cajun has never cheated them, and gives only the best quality service he can offer. and the majority of his feedback proves this.

after reading a lot reports about, I tried it out by my own and took money from moneybookers to account. Correct, they took 1.80 Euro - but that I was knowing before. Any other problem I did not have, and the money was on my account after 2 days. So, nothing to complain about at all seen from my experiences.
If you compare PayPal with moneybookers or mailed cash, you should do it respecting their rules - and in that case (not asking buyers for a refund of your fees) your calculation would look another way around. Once again - I'm not against PayPal, I'm using it since nearby 10 years and it was just great when they came up, but for small amounts it's not even 2nd choice...

Perhaps it's been a long time since the Cajun used MB and they've changed their rules. It's a fixed fee to withdraw $ from MB--about $2.80(?), so it doesn't make sense to withdraw $25, say, but for $500, it's cheap. Yes, Paypal is free to withdraw but then, they've taken their cut on the front end. And their cut is much bigger than MBs. (not trying to change your mind about MB, Cajunsr!--you're perfectly clear about how you feel )
Anyway, about the seller charging fees--as long as the buyer knows what they're getting into--a small fee might be reasonable. For $5.00 amounts, Paypal takes 10% (0.50 fee for a $5 transfer.) MB and cash are cheaper to accept than PP but are more risky (cash) or less well-known (MB, in the US anyway). The convenience of MB+Delcampe's E-wallet invoicing and the lower overall fees make it worthwhile to me. I figure I make sales I otherwise wouldn't by accepting as many methods of payment as possible. The fixed fee schedule I use also cuts down on confusion/hassle. I think it all evens out in the end.

I always thought it was a French custom, which the rest of us have to put up with.
Anyone with any sense would ask for one fixed price which on average covers all his costs. If you buy cheese from a supermarket in the evening, you don’t expect to pay an extra 5% to cover the extra cost of employing staff in the evening, and in the winter an extra 3.5% to cover heating, 6.5% on cold evenings, so that’s 11.5% extra, plus 17.5% VAT (TVA) on that, mustn’t forget the VAT. What else? Oh, a local sales tax of 1.5%, and a contribution to the staff pension fund of 3%, both plus VAT, so how much is the cheese ? They leave it to the customer to work out ….. No. I don’t think that would be popular at all.
The basic withdrawal fee is $2.80 per transaction directly into one's account via electronic payment.
Not $35.00 usd.
Small receiving banks in the USA may charge an additional fee on top of the Moneybookers fee of $2.80 per transaction.
That is up to individual banks, they do love those fees.
Bank of America does not charge any additional fees.

i can tell you this fact...when i had MB, they did charged me $35 to transfer my $100.00 to my credit bureau account. i have the records to prove it. this was long before delcampe used them for their purposes. and you were a member of the site. so please, don't tell me that i am wrong. they tried to blame it on my credit bureau but my bank did not charge me for the transfer, MB did. end of story.

It 's not the end of the story at all.
Moneybookers' fees are nothing like as high as this. The problem obviously lies with small banks and "credit bureaux" in the USA which are not geared up to handling foreign transactions,
You could probably not walk into your bank and buy pounds sterling or euros or Swiss francs (or dollars) over the counter like you could in Europe.

i have stayed with PAYPAL ever since.
and it is a rule, not a law. and if they want to close my account, not a problem. but like i said, there are many others like me who do the same, so if they do it to me, they better do it to them or it will be lawsuit time. in fact, they allow some in other countries to recoup their fees. the rule is not consistent.
